Should you wear a sleep monitor?

We’re frequently contacted by people who say their sleep has deteriorated. Far enough that’s what we are here for and we have every chance of getting you sleeping soundly again. If you follow our 3 point sleep plan. What’s strange is that the prospective customer often follows up their opening statement by informing us that their sleep has deteriorated from say 72% to 48%. How do they know with such mind-blowing precision? Because their sleep monitoring device has told them so

Leaving aside the dubious accuracy of these monitoring apps and devices- and that is open to genuine question- we really don’t think you should be using any form of monitoring device to track your sleep.

Why? Because to track it is to turn it into a project and a chore. And sleep should be neither of those things. Make it a chore and you’ll connect it to worry and anxiety. The result- your sleep gets worse.

Much of our approach at Sleep Better can be summarised as primeval. We are to sleeping what a carnivore diet is to eating. Our aim is to mimic how our distant ancesteros approached sleep. We don’t know if stone age man or the naglo Saxons struggled with insomnia. They may have done so. But we suspect that as they were inherently and inevitably living close to our three point plan that sleep problems were much less. They certainly weren’t using Apps to score their sleep.

So should you wear a sleep monitor? We think not. So go ahead. Ditch the App. Stop viewing sleep as a problem. We suspect your sleep will improve- but sadly we can’t give you a percentage score for before and after. And if you still feel your sleep is a problem give our carnivore approach a go!
