Can weighted blankets help you sleep better? A recent study suggests that they can. Work by Occupational Therapists at Flinders University concluded that
“Weighted blankets seem to offer a tangible, non-drug intervention for improving sleep quality.
Adults who used the blankets reported better sleep, reduced use of sleep medications, and even improvements in mood and pain management.”
The study found results were best amongst adults with the results amongst children more mixed.
The use of weighted blankets is closely related to point 2 of our better sleep plan. It’s one means of implementing that part of the plan. There are more effective measures available. And the plan will work best of all three points are utilised.
But we really welcome the research focus on practical sleep improvement techniques like this. Such techniques are cheaper and more effective than pharmaceutical interventions. And there are no side effects.
